A neighbor discovered mr. Fossum's dogs loose and his door unlocked. 6 days later the neighbor discovered that the missing person had not returned home and contacted police. The missing person's black 2002 toyota land cruiser was found days later off county road 64, adjacent to a bridge over the elk river near the hinman campgrounds. A note with a coded message was found in the car. It is unusual for mr. Fossum to go without leaving information about where he can be contacted.
