Info

One woman and three children were killed in a suspected arson fire in the early morning hours on saturday, sept. 27, 1975, at an apartment house located at 1128 6th avenue in des moines. Two other arson fires had been set at the building in the days leading up to the sept. 27 fire, but the first two had been extinguished by tenants and no one reported them to the fire department. The apartment house was owned by gregory l. And dona j. Nepstad, who were not present when the third and fatal blaze took place. The victims were identified as sharion owens, 21, and her 2-year-old son, christopher owens, who lived in the building. The two other victims, barbara gill (age 4-5) and shawn gill (age 2-3), were staying with a babysitter while their parents were in new york. This site formerly listed greg nepstad as one of the decedents; the dmpd had listed him first because he owned the property.
