There they located a burning body with the head and hands missing. After an autopsy and further testing it was determined the body was indeed karen nelson. Vernon had just attended a company christmas party that sunday afternoon, december 15, 1974, to celebrate the season and relax with his fellow co-workers. Knowing he had dinner plans with a friend later that evening, vernon left the christmas party early and went home to take care of his dog before heading back out. When vernon failed to show up for the planned dinner, his friend called him repeatedly until about 10:00 p.M. That evening, getting no answer. By the time monday morning came, vernon was a no-show for work. His friend went by vernon's residence to check on him and found the front door unlocked. Lying just inside the front door, shot several times, lay the body of vernon roe. During the investigation, it was determined burglary was not the motive for the killing. A married father of six, albert trevino had just settled on a worker's compensation claim from injuries sustained working as a pipefitter and he kept this substantial amount of case with him while waiting for a car purchase deal to be approved. Trevino rented an automobile for the evening and proceeded to visit a series of bars along the east colfax corridor. Among the establishments trevino patronized that april night, witnesses at each observed him carelessly flashing a large sum of money around. Somewhere along the line that evening, the wrong person took notice. Around 12:30 a.M. On april 5, 1972, trevino entered the newport lounge on east colfax. Once again, albert flashed his money, loudly hailing anyone who would listen. This time, the bar owner watched closely as trevino sat next to a customer well known in the newport lounge. A "Regular customer" with an extensive criminal history, a violent nature who earlier that evening had brutally beaten and threaten with a gun a man who dared confront him about a debt he owed. Admonishing albert to lower his voice, the owner observed his "Regular customer" paying very careful attention to trevino's actions. A half hour later, the "Regular customer" left the bar, followed only a few minutes later by an intoxicated trevino. The owner watched trevino's car drive away, but did not observe where his "Regular customer" disappeared to, or if trevino drove away alone. Early in the morning of april 5, 1972, a school bus driver discovered the body of albert trevino lying on a county road, shot to death. Albert's wallet was also found, with all his paperwork intact, but missing all the cash. His rented car was later discovered parked at stapleton airport. Investigators later learned the newport lounge's "Regular customer" had phoned his wife very early in the morning on april 5, 1972 ordering her to pick him up at stapleton airport. Even stranger to her was the $100 cash he gave her with no explanation, and a fishing trip he took just a few days later, when she knew they were behind on their rent. A short time later, this "Regular customer" and his close associates were arrested for burglaries they committed in grand county, colorado, while the family of albert trevino was left with their grief and unanswered questions. On december 23, 1995 officers were called to the coal creek arena and rodeo grounds. A young black male was found at the back of the rodeo grounds with numerous gunshot wounds. The arapahoe county coroner's office responded and determined the victim died between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 a.M. The victim was identified five days later as mr. Craig bridges by use of fingerprints and associated to the address of 4201 don tomaso drive, los angeles, ca. It was believed that mr. Bridges was a crip gang member. Investigation led detectives to the mother of mr. Bridges, who advised she had put her son on a plane from the los angeles airport and thought he was flying to kansas city, missouri. She advised during her son's stay out of state, he called and gave her a telephone number and an extension number where she could reach him in case of an emergency. Investigation revealed mr. Bridges had been staying at the travelers motel, 14200 e. 6th avenue with a black male, who had given a california's driver's license as identification. The license may have been counterfeit. Also staying in the room with mr. Bridges was a black female with blonde hair. Her identity was not established. On june 29, 1984 at 4:14 a.M., james broughman, his wife and two small children were living in the manor house motel. The suspect gained entry into their apartment through a bathroom window located approximately 5 feet off the ground. After entering the window, the suspect was in the process of ransacking through the wallet and other items when he was confronted by james broughman. His wife and two small children awoke during the struggle and saw james struggling with a male and then heard the gunshot that ultimately killed him. The suspect then exited the motel room through the kitchenette window. On april 16, 2006 at 9:57 p.M., officers responded to 17103 east ohio place on a report of one shot fired and a person moaning. Officers found renauldo cadogan deceased inside the partially open door to apt #105, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. No eyewitnesses were located during a canvass. Inside the apartment near the front door was a gold colored bag that contained a number of small ziploc baggies. The baggies smelled strongly of marijuana, but they were empty, except for what appeared to be some residue. The investigation revealed that the victim sold marijuana and was heard arguing on his cell phone with an unknown party over the cost of three pounds of marijuana. On november 14, 2001 police and fire responded to the intersection of east 16th avenue and newark street on a report of a dead person in a vehicle. The victim was found seat-belted in the driver's seat of the vehicle. The victim had signs of trauma. The suspect(s) responsible for the death of jose diaz have yet to be identified. Anyone with information regarding this case, is asked to please contact the aurora police department.
