On march 19, 1974, at approximately 11:55 p.M., john and frances dubeck were murdered as they walked from their vehicle toward their apartment. The couple was attacked using a 20-gauge shotgun. He had recently testified in a case involving an illegal gambling conspiracy in california, which implicated high-profile individuals, including reputed los angeles crime boss peter john milano. Despite john’s murder, all defendants in the case, including john j. Vaccaro, attorney martin callaway, luigi gelfuso, and tony endreola, were ultimately convicted. John dubeck had a criminal history involving slot cheating and was reportedly involved in rigging craps games. This involvement may have made him a target for retaliation. An investigation revealed that kenneth trudeau and his father, robert trudeau sr., had possession of the murder weapon before the incident.
