The victim: on september 2, 1990, 27 year old shirley ann lacks was transported to saint francis hospital by private vehicle where she died as a result of a fatal gunshot wound. The crime: on 9/2/90 the cspd was notified that there had been an altercation at a sheldon st. Address and that a woman appeared to have been assaulted. Although the victim inside that house was not interviewed, the reporting officer later identified her as 27 year old shirley lacks. On 9/5/90, shirley lacks was admitted to saint francis hospital as a shooting victim. According to the witness, he and the victim, shirley lacks, had been parked in his vehicle - a white 1977 lincoln continental mark v- in the vicinity of rio grande and nevada when a black male suspect allegedly shot through the driver's side window, which was open. According to the witness, two shots were fired, one passed him and struck ms. Lacks in the arm and went on into her heart, a fatal wound. The victim's male friend could not describe the assailant but reported that he was driving a mazda rx7. The witness stated that ms. Lacks had been shot outside the vehicle by the suspect and that she stumbled to his car before he took her to saint francis hospital. The investigation: according to newspaper articles at the time, ms. Lacks was a known prostitute and narcotics user and had a number of arrests. Several potential suspects were identified and an informant indicated that the assailant had been driving a gray mazda. The investigation into ms. Shirley lacks' death remains open.
