On february 3, 1993, emma's sister came to pick her up for lunch as she did every day. Emma had severe vision problems that prevented her from driving. When her sister arrived she found the back door to the residence was wide open, which was very unusual. So she alerted a neighbor and the two entered the two-bedroom home to investigate. They found emma in the bedroom with stab wounds to her throat and neck. The residence had been ransacked.
