At approximately 10:30 pm, north precinct officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of 35th street north on report of a traffic accident. Officers arrived on the scene and began investigating the accident when a community member alert our officers that a person was down on a nearby sidewalk. Officers observed the victim lying unresponsive on a sidewalk in the 3500 block of norwood boulevard suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The preliminary investigation suggests the traffic accident involved a red suv that had collided with a parked vehicle. It is believed the victim was an occupant of that vehicle
