On december 10, 1981, an employee of the oregon humane society was near a pond on the 1000 block of ne columbia boulevard at approximately 12:40 pm, when he observed what looked to be a red parka in the pond. Upon further inspection, he discovered that it was a deceased individual. Police responded to find the victim, mario rivera, a 42-year-old hispanic man. An autopsy revealed that he had died as the result of being beaten about the head with a blunt object. Mario rivera was described, by most individuals interviewed, as being rowdy and was frequently drunk. He was also reported to be verbally abusive and disrespectful.
