57 year old j.C. Tyus, sr. Owned a grocery store called mr. Gem's. This family-operated grocery store was located just east of denver's historic five-points neighborhood. J.C. Tyus, sr. Moved from the state of alabama to denver when he was 12 years old and worked in the grocery business for the next four decades. On the morning of may 26th, 1981 j.C. Tyus, sr. Was shot to death by an unknown suspect(s) during an attempted robbery. He was married and had six children.
