At approximately 9:40 am, west precinct officers were dispatched to the 500 block of 12th street southwest on multiple shot spotter alerts. The call was updated to a person shot call.Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.The preliminary investigation suggests there was a shootout in the area which led to the victim being shot. Officers recovered a firearm from the victim.A patrol officer detained a male seen running from the scene. Bpd homicide detectives will question the male.Agency
