At approximately 7:40 in the morning on january 31, 2004, a bicyclist traveling on ne mason street near the intersection with ne 18th avenue discovered jamaal wells, a 23-year-old african-american man, lying face down on the sidewalk. The bicyclist ran to a nearby residence and called 911. Police responded to find that mr. Wells was in fact deceased and had died as the result of gunshot wounds. Mr. Wells was reported to have been a well liked individual and was last seen at club exotica at approximately closing time near the intersection of ne columbia and martin luther king, jr. Boulevard. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of ne 17th and mason street at approximately 4:26 am.Agency
