On april 26, 1953 an unconscious man was found on the second floor of the capital hotel. He was rushed to the salt lake county general hospital but died while en route. The man’s two travel companion’s were booked into the county jail for questioning. The trio had just arrived from portland. Oregon when they checked into the hotel and drank, and then went to bed. The victim checked into the hotel under the name of johnny thompson, his companions knew him as johnny beaukins. Paper in the victim’s possession gave the name of john f hansen of 26 nw st, portland. Next of kin of john f hansen viewed the victim’s body and said the body was not their son. Ellis hazelwood one of the victim’s companion’s was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the man’s death, the victim has never been positively identified.
