Miguel, 18 year-old, was an el salvadorian nationalist and had recently relocated to the salt lake area from santa ana, california. He came to live with his cousin, emeterio melgar hernandez. Miguel and emeterio had attended a dance together on the evening of august 13, 1982. It was the last known sighting of miguel. Miguel’s body was found by hikers in some bushes approximately 100 yards off the road between east canyon and immigration canyon on august 17, 1982. The cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds. Miguel’s uncle’s body was found a short distance away and with the same approximate time and manner of death. This case is considered to be a double homicide.
