On october 10, 2017, at approximately 9:00pm, columbus police were sent to the area of e. 5th avenue and the ramp to james road. A passerby called and reported a man lying partially in the street on 5th avenue. When officers arrived, they found a black male, later identified as 42-year old ulrich smith, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Smith appeared to be walking home from the cota bus stop. He left behind a wife and young son and daughter. Crime stoppers is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or indictment of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
