In the early morning hours of march 17th, 1996, a sergeant on patrol in the area of lyell and saratoga ave. Saw a male lying in the street. As the sergeant approached, he realized that the male was suffering from a severe head injury. It was determined that the male had been shot and was deceased. The victim was later identified as 34 year old santiago de aza. It was reported that de aza had left a nearby after-hours party and was walking on saratoga ave when he was shot and killed. Witnesses reported seeing two males fleeing the area on foot but the suspect(s) were never identified.
