On the evening of january 28, 2004, two unknown suspects were in the process of committing a robbery just outside of jamal steward's montebello residence. As jamal steward exited his residence to intervene, he was shot by one of the suspects. Immediately after the failed robbery attempt, both suspects fled the scene. Jamal steward was transported to a nearby hospital by a family member. For over one month jamal steward survived his injury. Unfortunately, jamal steward succumbed to the injuries he previously sustained on march 3. 2004. The suspect(s) responsible for the murder of jamal steward have yet to be identified.
