At approximately 2:14 p.M., officers from south precinct responded to the vicinity of the 100 block of 5th avenue south west on a shotspotter call. The birmingham 911 communications division also received calls of a male firing a weapon at another person. Officers responded and attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect fled on foot and shots were fired. The suspect fled to a residence in the 600 block of center place south west and took a tactical position on the porch. The birmingham police department deployed additional resources such as star one aviation support and the tactical operations division. In the attempted de-escalate, additional shots were fired at officers. Ultimately, the suspect was shot and wounded by officers. Birmingham fire and rescue personnel was staged on scene and immediately rendered aid. The suspect was transported to uab hospital with serious injuries. The suspects injuries proved to be fatal and he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. A handgun was recovered on scene.Agency
