On may 8, 1991, lakewood police responded to an apartment fire in an apartment building located at 8983 west jewell avenue. Officers discovered the body 68 year-old william haensch, he had died of smoke inhalation. An investigation was conducted and found no accidental cause or accelerants to have been used to start the fire. A young boy who was not known to be associated with any of the residents was observed leaving the building just as the fire began.
