At approximately 3:22 pm, west precinct officers were responding to a call of a person shot in the 1700 block of avenue I, the ensley community.When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the victim lying in the roadway unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Officers also observed a citizen attempting to render aid to the victim.Birmingham fire and rescue services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and others were hanging out in the area when a verbal altercation ensued.
