On the late evening hours of april 4, 1981, 41 year old daniel ortega was near the career education center, located in northwest denver close to the intersection of w. 26th avenue and elliot street. At some point, an unknown suspect(s) shot daniel ortega. In an effort to escape his assailant, daniel fled through a parking lot, but later collapsed from his injuries. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and daniel was immediately transported to a local hospital. He died a few minutes after midnight on april 5, 1981.
