In the early morning hours on june 6th, 2023, rochester police officers responded to the area of lyell ave, and myrtle st. For the report of a shooting. Officers located a one male down on the sidewalk near the corner of lyell and myrtle st. The male had been shot in the chest but survived. Witnesses reported that there was a second shooting victim in the rooming house at 470 lyell ave. Officers found kevin travis deceased on the stairway in the common area of that residence. Witnesses indicated that an unknown person had come into the building and fired multiple rounds from a handgun, striking and killing travis.
