On june 6, 1991, at about 2:55 a.M., officers responded to the burnside bridge on reports of an intoxicated person. Upon arrival in the area, they located the victim and requested the him to sit on the sidewalk as to not injure himself. The victim was later identified as, beryl leroy haynes, a 38-year-old white male. When officers made contact with mr. Haynes he was staggering around and appeared to be intoxicated. Upon closer examination of mr. Haynes, the officers could see blood on his clothing and immediately called for paramedics. While being transported to a local hospital, mr. Haynes told officers he had been stabbed by five hispanic males, while on the burnside bridge. While being cared for by medical staff at the hospital, mr. Haynes died due to his injuries sustained during the assault.
