At approximately 1:15 p.M., east precinct officers were dispatched to a shot spotter alert at 7701 5th avenue north. Officers were updated that a person was shot inside a vehicle in the 500 block of oporto madrid boulevard north.Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive inside a van; he was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to uab hospital with life-threatening injuries.On thursday. January 11, 2024, the victim succumbed to his injuries at uab hospital.The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was inside his vehicle when an unknown vehicle pulled next to him at the intersection of 5th avenue north @ oporto madrid boulevard north. An unknown suspect(s) fired shots into the victim’s vehicle; the suspect’s vehicle fled the scene.Agency
