On august 6, 1979 karen oatley was found in a wooded area near what was then the gardner junior high school. She went missing the day prior. Karen had been strangled and her throat was slashed.Karen was born with severe hearing loss. She was enrolled in a lansing school system hearing impaired program at the age of 2 ½. With the help of hearing aids, many hours spent mastering her lip-reading skills and some very dedicated teachers, karen was successfully integrated into regular elementary school with her hearing friends.Agency
