On may 12, 1988, between 1:30 a.M. – 1:45 a.M., barbara powers, a vcu student and also a band manager for a local richmond punk rock group named the undertakers was walking home after meeting with the group. While walking in the area of 112 n. Plum street, the victim was confronted by a black male described as slender to medium build, 6’0” to 6’2” with short hair and a moustache. During what appears to have been an attempted robbery, powers was stabbed to death. Witnesses in the area heard an argument and powers screaming during the assault. The suspect left the area on a bicycle southbound on plum street and turned into the south alley in the 1500 block of grove avenue.The suspect was also involved in an attempted robbery and stabbing 20 minutes prior to powers being killed. The first assault occurred in the 2000 block of park avenue. The victim was severely injured and survived the attack.Agency
