On september 8, 1986, at approximately 1400 hours lvmpd received a call regarding a dead body in the area of deer creek and lee canyon on mount charleston. Two hikers had made contact with rangers at the lee canyon ranger station advising the had located the body of a white male adult, who appeared to be deceased. The male, later identified as matthew l dane had been shot multiple times. Dane was also identified as being in the air force and was stationed at nellis air force base. Dane was married at the time of his death. On september 7, 1986, his wife told detectives she last saw her husband at the 7-eleven located at charleston and nellis blvd. After the two had returned from mount charleston. Dane had allegedly came out of the store around 4:00 p.M., told his wife his friend who was in the 7-eleven and he were going out target shooting and removed his guns from the trunk of their car. Dane’s wife stated she did not know who the friend was or where the two were gong target shooting at. On september 8, 1986 dane’s wife said she woke up and realized matthew dane never returned home. She became very upset because she told detectives this behavior was uncommon for her husband. Therefore, she proceeded to nellis air force base, where she spoke with her husband’s command officer, who assisted her in contacting metro police.
