Gladys punch, age 72, and her brother, warren tarkington, age 75, were fatally shot in st. Lawrence cemetery in west haven on labor day, september 5, 1994, while they were visiting the grave of gladys' husband. Police were called to the scene around 2:30 in the afternoon after being notified by a witness that two people were lying prone in the cemetery. The two victims were located among the headstones on near forest road.
