On july 14, 1998, at approximately 6:30 am, a person who described himself as a “canner” was searching for cans and bottles on a path in powers marine park, near sw macadam ave. This “canner” saw some blood on the path and. Following the blood trail he discovered the discarded body of a white female. This subject immediately left the area and called the police. Police responded to the scene and determined that the white female was deceased. A subsequent autopsy determined that the female had died of gunshot wounds. Using fingerprints from the body detectives were able to determine that the deceased was cassie nadeen stevens, a 35-year-old white woman, 5’8”, 120 lbs. Investigators discovered that ms stevens was from the seattle area and had recently arrived in portland’s old town. According to her family, cassie stevens was a crack cocaine user who needed to support her habit. Cassie was last seen alive in the early morning (3 am to 4 am) hours of july 14, 1998, in old town. Investigators are looking for someone who would have talked about “dumping” a body around this time or had unexplained blood on their person, clothes or vehicle or anyone who has knowledge regarding the death of a prostitute or thief.
