On august 15, 1977, an employee of the portland development commission observed a body floating in the willamette river near the ankeny pump station at approximately 2:15 pm. Multnomah county sheriff’s river patrol retrieved the victim, 24-year-old allen james hamilton, a native american male, from the river and placed him on a float near the pump station. An autopsy concluded that mr. Hamilton had been stabbed, but died as the result of drowning. Mr. Hamilton was reported to be a transient and had issues with alchol. He was last seen on august 12, at the tacoma tavern at approximately 5:00 pm. He was drinking with two unidentified african-american males and one unidentified white male.
