During the early morning hours of december 5, 1992, henry "Shortly" palacios left the southeast home of a friend where he had been staying for several days. He was given a ride to old town by his friend’s roommate. She parked her car on nw 3rd avenue, just off west burnside. Mr. Palacio and his friend walked west on burnside. As they approached 4th avenue, three hispanic males came around the corner and jumped mr. Palacio. As one of them held mr. Palacio another struck him in the torso. Henry stagered across burnside at 4th avenue, and continued behind the chevron station, and then south on 5th avenue. Some time later, he was found lying on the sidewalk dead of stab wounds, in the 200 block of sw 5th avenue. Mr. Palacio had an ex-girl friend living in the portland area. They had a daughter who had recently died. He was trying to get his life back together. Mr. Palacio had checked himself into the hooper center and was to report from there to a detox center in ontario, oregon. Mr. Palaciohad told friends that some drug dealers were looking for him, claiming that he had stolen some money from them.
