On december 26, 2010, at approximately 6:30pm, carolina acosta's husband called 911 and reported that his wife, carolina acosta, age 30, had been shot in an apparent "Car jacking" after leaving in the area of tuttle mall in columbus. Mrs. Acosta was driven to dublin methodist hospital by her husband where she was pronounced with a gunshot wound. On december 26, 2010, between 4:30pm and 5:30pm, carolina acosta and her husband went shopping at tuttle crossing mall. According to mr. Acosta, after leaving the mall they drove off of the lot in their 2000 lincoln navigator, and at the corner of camden place and chelsea park drive, which is approximately 1/2 mile from the mall parking lot, two unknown suspects approached their vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victims. The suspects got into the vehicle and ordered the couple to drive. He drove down avery rd. Making turns when the suspect ordered him to. When they arrived in a remote area of langton rd., south of hayden run road west, in brown township, the suspect said "That's good enough", and ordered mr. Acosta to stop the vehicle. Mr. Acosta states that he noticed the same small red car that had been following them stopped behind them. Arriving at the location, the suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to force the couple out. Mr. Acosta decided that this was a good time to attempt an escape. Mr. Acosta stated "He punched it" and started driving off when one of the suspects opened fire on the vehicle at least twice. One of the shots struck mrs. Acosta in the head. Mr. Acosta continued to drive as he called 911 on his cell phone to report what had happened. He made his way to avery rd. And on to dublin hospital, on the phone with the 911 dispatcher the whole time. The suspects are described as black males in their late teens or early twenties. Both were described as 5ft 8in tall with brown eyes and brown hair. The suspects might have fled in the mid-size red car that was reported to have been following them. At this point, no witnesses have come forward. The franklin county sheriff's office has obtained surveillance video from tuttle mall that shows the couple in the mall at the time mr. Acosta claims to have been there with his wife. Nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. Surveillance video of the parking lot was also obtained; however, it shows nothing unusual. It appears that this was a random crime; it is unknown why the acosta's were targeted.Agency
