At around 12:15 pm, the birmingham 911 communications division began receiving calls of multiple shot spotter alerts near the 200 block of 3rd avenue southwest.The call was updated to a person shot call in the back parking lot of the university crossings apartment complex located in the 200 block of 3rd avenue southwest.Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.The preliminary investigation suggests two groups were involved in a shootout near the apartment complex; we believe the victim may have been involved in the initial shootout then dumped at the apartments.A patrol officer observed a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and detained an adult male.Patrol officers transported the male, who was detained, to bpd headquarters for questioning.At the conclusion of the interview, the male was booked into the birmingham city jail under a 48-hour felony extension
