At around 4:50 p.M., west precinct officers were dispatched to a juvenile shot call in the 1300 block of pike road.Officers arrived on the scene and then entered an alleyway when they discovered a 12-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Birmingham fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to children’s hospital with life-threatening injuries. Children’s hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was at a family friend’s house and was handling a firearm when he may have accidentally shot himself.Currently, we do not believe someone else shot the victim.
