Patrick smyth’s body was found at approximately 1 a.M. On february 13, 1987 in the northern portion of richland county, sc near I-77 on highway 555. He had been shot and burned. He was a commercial truck driver whose tractor, a 1978 white road commander ii, silver with red stripes, bearing a pennsylvania tag was destroyed by fire. The white trailer and its contents were intact. Both the tractor and trailer bore the w. F. Burns trucking company logo. It is believed that smyth had fuel line trouble and bought parts at a truck stop located on I-77 in either north or south carolina. It also is believed he obtained a ride from an unknown motorist.
