Charlotte Home Security Advice

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina. Nicknamed the Queen City, the metropolis is no stranger to high crime rates. Every day the news covers burglaries and home invasions taking place in the city and the surrounding suburbs. To keep your home and family safe, consider upgrading your home’s protection.

You may think your home is secure but a savvy burglar knows how to be in and out of your home in a matter of minutes. Rest assured, there are quick and easy ways you can increase your home security. The best place to start is the exterior of your home since this is your first line of defense.

Burglars look for easy targets. This includes homes with poor lighting, high fences, and no security system. To keep your home protected, here are some quick tips:

  • -.Keep ladders, tools, and other supplies out of view. These can be used to unlock or break windows, and access the second floor.

  • -.Do not put your name on your mailbox. Often burglars will check to make sure no one home before entering. Knowing your last name and address they can find your home phone number in a directory and make a quick call to see if you’re home.

  • -.Say goodbye to the fake rock. Hiding your keys in one of these is not a good idea. Burglaries are well aware of this tactic and will easily gain access using your very own key. Instead leave a key with a trusted neighbor. Or, if that is not an option, you could always put it in a film canister and bury it somewhere you’ll remember.

  • -. Don’t give a burglar an easy place to hide. Overgrown shrubbery and tall privacy fences will provide the perfect cover from your neighbor’s line of sight. Choose a picket or chain-linked fence instead and always keep your shrubs and trees clipped.

  • -.Lights, lights, lights. A poorly lit house is an easy target. Use motion lights or solar lights on the exterior of your home for protection. Inside, light timers are great additions. A combination of both will let you neighbors see if there is any suspicious activity in or around your home.

  • -.Use security yard signs and window decals. It has been proven that a home with a security system is three times less likely to be burglarized. The thought of setting off an alarm is a deterrent for most burglars. For those that try anyway, having a Charlotte home security system is sure to stop them in their tracks.

By taking these precautions you’ll ensure your home and family’s protection. Not to mention, you’ll gain the peace of mind you deserve knowing you’re prepared.
