Shots Fired on S. Bentz Street
On 09-16-12 at approximately 0200 hrs. Officers of the Frederick Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a report of shots fired at the Bentz Street Sports Bar, 6 South Bentz Street in Frederick. Upon arrival a large number of people were in the street in front of the business. Information at the scene indicated that an assault had occurred inside the bar. Another subject was found to have been robbed in the rear lot of the business. And other subjects were seen leaving the scene in a dark in color Dodge Charger and were shooting at a subject on W. Patrick Street.
While attempting to gather information at the scene officers observed several fights breaking out in the nearby streets. Large numbers of individuals were leaving the area of the bar and becoming involved in fights as they left. One arrest was made for disorderly conduct and CDS charges pursuant to one of the fights in the 200 block of W. South Street.
Officers began to canvass the area in an attempt to locate the Dodge Charger said to be involved in the shooting incident. OFC. Darrick Scott observed a vehicle fitting the description in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Rt. #40. OFC. Scott maintained surveillance of the car while waiting for additional units to arrive. The vehicle pulled into the drive thru of the McDonald’s, 1275 W. Patrick Street. OFC. Scott observed one subject exit the vehicle and place something in the dumpster of the McDonald’s. OFC. Scott detained that individual, the vehicle then fled the scene Westbound on Rt. #40. as other officers arrived the car was stopped in the parking lot in front of Wolf Furniture. Four occupants of the vehicle were detained at that time.
Follow up investigation revealed that apparently no one was struck by gunfire, but at least on vehicle was hit by bullets. The Dodge Charger found by OFC. Scott was identified as the one seen leaving the area of the shooting. All occupants of the vehicle were detained, as was the subject at the McDonald’s. Officers were able to recover evidence related to this case during the initial investigation. At this time the relationship between the other two incidents (the assault and robbery) and the shooting is still under investigation. The victims of the assault and the robbery have also been identified. Additional press releases will be issued as the investigation continues. The Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit are conducting further investigation into this matter.
