Arson - 16XX CROWN AVENUE, SCRANTON, PA

08/05/2012 03:00 AM.
A Scranton man was in police custody Sunday night for allegedly setting fire to his neighbor's house with a torch made from toilet paper and nail polish remover after a brawl between his father and the neighbor. Jonathan Kilvitis of 1615 Crown Ave. was charged with arson for allegedly tossing the lit bottle at the back porch of 1613 Crown Ave. at about 3 a.m. Sunday. The South Side home sustained heavy damage when the fire charred the rear of the single-story house and spread along the eaves. According to arrest papers, Mr. Kilvitis admitted to police that he started the blaze after he saw his father, Joseph Kilvitis, fighting with the neighbor, Richard Clifton, earlier in the night. He became upset when he saw his father's injured eye and cheek. After Jonathan Kilvitis belatedly discovered that the lit bottle had ignited the home, he ran to Mr. Clifton's house and kicked in the front door to shout for Mr. Clifton and his companion, Janice Savage, to wake up and get out of the smoke-filled building.
