07/24/2012. The Frederick Police Department held it's 10th Annual Youth Police Academy July 24th - 26th with 149 youth participating. This program provided youth ages 7-14 with a close-up look at Law Enforcement and tools of the trade. Since 2003, the department has provided 1,735 youth the opportunity to participate in this program.
The youth had an opportunity to learn what it is like to be a police officer, discuss internet safety as well as stranger danger. The youth also had the opportunity see departmental equipment, watch a K-9 demonstration, dust for fingerprints, participate in an interactive demonstration with members of our Special Response Team (SRT), and receivedinformation on departmental programs. The attendees also had the chance to attempt a physical agility course.
