McCalla man shot during burglary. Birmingham, AL 06/05/2012 - Victim surprised the suspect and was shot. Just after 12:30 am Sunday morning deputies were called to a home in the 7200 block of Bishop Road in McCalla about a person with a gun. When they arrived, they were met at the door of the residence by a woman who told them her husband had been shot. The 83 year old victim told deputies that he had been laying in his bed when he saw a figure in the darkened hallway. He called out to his wife. He then heard a gunshot and felt pain in his shoulder. Deputies discovered a broken window and a door that had been forced open. Several areas of the house appeared in disarray and the victim's car had been broken into. The victim's wife told deputies that she had been asleep without her hearing aids and had not heard anything. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital and is expected to recover. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to cantact the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777. View Source.
