On august 28, 1993, a party was being held on the 500 block of ne 80th that was being attended by various youths of vietnamese descent. At approximately 10:30 pm, a passenger in a red van began firing at a group standing outside the party. Tien hoang truong, a 19-year-old vietnamese man, was struck and died at the scene. Tien hoang truong was from seattle and was a member of a vietnamese gang out of seattle that had close ties with a local vietnamese gang. The passenger of the red van who shot at the group has been described by witnesses as being a vietnamese man, 5 foot 3 inches tall, approximately 140 pounds with black hair. The van has been described as being a 1979 chevrolet van, red in color with yellow stripe.
